Ensemble
Chaconne enthralls audiences with dramatic period-instrument performances
of music from Renaissance and Baroque Europe. Repertoire ranges from well-known
masterpieces to recently discovered works. Peter H. Bloom (Renaissance
and Baroque flutes), Carol Lewis (viola da gamba), and Olav Chris Henriksen
(lute, theorbo and early guitar) bring exhilaration and theatrical intensity
to an intimate chamber setting. The
three musicians have performed together since 1985, while also appearing
in solo recitals and concertizing widely with other ensembles. In 25 years
as a touring ensemble, the group has achieved unity and graceful interplay
as a trio, while highlighting the strength and expressiveness of each
individual. Ensemble
Chaconne is a member of the Early Music America Touring Roster, the New
England States Touring Program, the Massachusetts Cultural Council Performing
and Touring Roster, and the South Carolina Arts Commission's Artists-in
Education Roster. The
group has appeared at noted venues including Atlanta's famed Spivey Hall;
The Bach Festival Society of Winter Park, Florida; Boston's legendary
Jordan Hall; Kenyon College; University of North Carolina at Charlotte;
the celebrated Edison Theatre in St. Louis; Bowdoin College, and others.
Ensemble Chaconne was chosen for featured concerts at the Royal Shakespeare
Company's 2006 residency project at Davidson College, and at the National
Meeting of the American Musicological Society in Columbus, Ohio. World-renowned
museums including Boston's Museum of Fine Arts and the Peabody Essex Museum
have commissioned the group to perform themed programs for major exhibition
openings.
