PETER
H. BLOOM is a distinguished soloist and ensemble flutist whose
career encompasses a wide range of chamber music from period-instrument
performances to premieres of new music. He is also a noted jazz
artist. Mr. Bloom was a winner of the Noah Greenberg Award of the
American Musicological Society for his work in 19th century American
music. He has performed across the United States and appears on
30 CDs with distribution throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

PERFORMANCES:
In solo recital, Mr. Bloom has appeared at the American Instrument
Society, National Flute Association, Flute Society of Philadelphia,
Early Music Society of Boulder Colorado, Jordan Hall, Isabella Stewart
Gardner Museum, Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, and Berklee Performance
Center, among others. He has performed with noted ensembles including
the Aston Magna Festival Orchestra, Ensemble Chaconne, Olmsted Ensemble,
Jubal's Lyre, New Mendelssohn Quintet Club, Victorian Duo, the duo
"2" (with pianist/harpist Mary Jane Rupert), and the internationally-acclaimed
Aardvark Jazz Orchestra (winner of the 2000 Independent Music Awards).
He has toured widely, appearing in venues such as The Metropolitan
Museum, The National Gallery, The Bach Festival Society of Winter
Park Florida, Princeton University, Yale University, Dartmouth College,
The Royal Shakespeare Company's residency project at Davidson College,
Mississippi Academy of Ancient Music, Atlanta's famed Spivey Hall,
Kenyon College, Bowdoin College, Pennsylvania Museum of Art, Mechanics
Hall, Fogg Art Museum, Rutgers University, St Peters Lutheran Church
(NYC), and All Saints Beverly Hills.
NEW MUSIC PREMIERES: Mr. Bloom has
given premiere performances of works by Elizabeth Vercoe, Richard
Cornell, Mark Harvey, Peter Aldins, Paul Brust, Walter Thompson,
Vinny Golia, Andy Vores, and others.
RECORDINGS:
An extensive discography includes 30 recordings for SONY Classical,
Dorian, Newport Classic, North Star, Leo Records, and other labels.
Mr. Bloom served as executive producer and soloist in D.C. Hall's
New Concert and Quadrille Band's recording Grand Concert! (music
heard in mid-19th century America), which was praised by Gramophone
Magazine: "Clean playing and careful ensemble are the keynote...Hall's
Band meets the challenge with precision and spirit." Other
recordings include the Hall's Band recording Union and Liberty
(music of the American Civil War, Dorian Records), Measure
for Measure: The Music of Shakespeare's Plays (Ensemble Chaconne
performing on Renaissance instruments with mezzo-soprano Pamela
Dellal, Americas Musicworks), Take Me Out to the Ballgame (music
of baseball from 1858 to 1913, chamber ensemble with mezzo-soprano
D'Anna Fortunato on SONY Classical), and the Boston Museum of Fine

Bloom also appears on 10 CDs by The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, including
the band's latest disc, American Agonistes on Leo Records
("a stunning hour of music that is in turn beautiful, poignant
and raucous" -- Billboard.com). With members of Aardvark, he
recorded improvised music for the DVD series Treasures from the
American Film Archives, which The New York Times called
"one of the best sets of the year."
TEACHING,
CONSULTING, SPECIAL PROJECTS: A sought-after consultant and
performer on historical instruments, Mr. Bloom has served as music
director for exhibitions and multi-media projects of The American
Museum in Britain, The New-York Historical Society, and The American
Antiquarian Society, among others. He is an independent historical
instrument consultant to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, where he
has given numerous lecture-demonstrations and has recorded musical
excerpts and commentary for the museum's audio tour of historical
wind instruments. He has lectured at the Henry Ford Museum, National
Flute Association, American Musical Instrument Society, University
of Colorado, University of Maine-Orono and elsewhere. Mr. Bloom
served on the faculties of New England Conservatory of Music, Regis
College, International Early Dance Institute at Goucher College,
Dana Hall School of Music, and the Brooks School. He is a board
member of The James Pappoutsakis Flute Competition and has served
on the visiting artist fellows selection committee for the American
Antiquarian Society since 1997.

EDUCATION:
Mr. Bloom holds a Master of Music with distinction in flute
performance from the New England Conservatory of Music and a BA
in philosophy from Boston University. He pursued performance studies
at Hochschule Mozarteum, Salzburg; Longy School of Music; and Aston
Magna Institute. He studied with Robert Willoughby, Stephen Preston,
Sandra Miller, James Pappoutsakis, and David Hart and performed
in the master classes of Karl-Heinz Zöller, Walfrid Kujala,
Frans Brüggen, Bartold Kuyjken, Robert Stallman, Betty Bang
Mather, Wilbert Hazelzet, and others.
