PETER
H. BLOOM is a distinguished soloist and ensemble flutist whose
career encompasses a wide range of chamber music from period-instrument
performances to premieres of new music. He is also a noted jazz
artist. Mr. Bloom was a winner of the Noah Greenberg Award of the
American Musicological Society for his work in 19th century American
music. He tours internationally and appears on 30 CDs with distribution
throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

PERFORMANCES:
Among his many recitals and ensemble concerts,
Mr. Bloom has performed for The New York Flute Club, the U.S. Embassy
in Thailand, American Musical Instrument Society, National Flute
Association, Mahidol University College of Music (Salaya, Thailand),
Metropolitan Museum, Flute Society of Philadelphia, National Gallery
(Washington DC), Boston Globe Jazz and Blues Festival, Lake George
Jazz Weekend, Autumn Uprising Festival of New & Improvised Music,
Royal Shakespeare Company's residency at Davidson College, Princeton
University, Yale University, Bach Festival Society of Winter Park
Florida, the Regent's School in Bangkok, and American University
Alumni (Chiang Mai, Thailand). He has performed with noted ensembles
including Aston Magna Festival Orchestra, Ensemble Chaconne, Olmsted
Ensemble, the duo "2" with pianist/harpist Mary Jane Rupert,
C&B Jazz Duo, FiLmprov (improvisation to animated films) and
the internationally acclaimed Aardvark Jazz Orchestra (37th season),
and has appeared at celebrated venues including Spivey Hall, Jordan
Hall, Edison Theatre in St. Louis, Mechanics Hall, Berklee Performance
Center, All Saints Church (Beverly Hills), St Peters Lutheran Church

Mr. Bloom has given premiere performances of works by Elizabeth
Vercoe, Richard Cornell, Mark Harvey, Peter Aldins, Paul Brust,
Walter Thompson, Vinny Golia, Andy Vores, Karl Henning, Narong Prangcharoen

RECORDINGS:
An extensive discography includes 30 recordings for SONY
Classical, Dorian, Newport Classic, North Star, Leo Records, and
other labels. Mr. Bloom served as executive producer and soloist
in D.C. Hall's New Concert and Quadrille Band's recording Grand
Concert! (music heard in mid-19th century America), which was
praised by Gramophone Magazine: "Clean playing and careful
ensemble are the keynote...Hall's Band meets the challenge with
precision and spirit." Other recordings include the Hall's
Band recording Union and Liberty (music of the American Civil
War, Dorian Records), Measure for Measure: The Music of Shakespeare's
Plays (Ensemble Chaconne performing on Renaissance instruments
with mezzo-soprano Pamela Dellal, Americas Musicworks), Take
Me Out to the Ballgame (music of baseball from 1858 to 1913,
chamber ensemble with mezzo-soprano D'Anna Fortunato on SONY Classical),
and the Boston Museum of Fine Arts CD, And the Angels Sing,

There is
not a miss in this instant classic." Bloom also appears on
10 CDs by the Aardvark Jazz Orchestra, including the band's latest
disc, American Agonistes on Leo Records ("a stunning
hour of music that is in turn beautiful, poignant and raucous"
-- Billboard.com). With members of The Aardvark Jazz Orchestra,
he recorded improvised music for the DVD series Treasures from
the American Film Archives, which The New York Times called
"one of the best sets of the year."

LECTURES,
TEACHING AND SPECIAL
PROJECTS: A sought-after consultant and performer on historical
instruments, Mr. Bloom has served as music director for exhibitions
and multi-media projects of The American Museum in Britain, The
New-York Historical Society, and The American Antiquarian Society,
among others. He is historical instrument consultant to the Boston
Museum of Fine Arts, where he has given numerous lecture-demonstrations
and has recorded for the museum's audio tour of historical woodwinds.
He has lectured at the Henry Ford Museum, National Flute Association,
American Musical Instrument Society, University of Colorado, University
of Maine-Orono and elsewhere. He served on the faculties of New
England Conservatory of Music, Regis College, International Early
Dance Institute at Goucher College, Dana Hall School of Music, and
the Brooks School. He is a board member of The James Pappoutsakis
Flute Competition. (top)

EDUCATION:
Mr.
Bloom holds a Master of Music with distinction in flute performance
from the New England Conservatory of Music and a BA in philosophy
from Boston University. He pursued performance studies at Hochschule
Mozarteum, Salzburg; Longy School of Music; and Aston Magna Institute.
He studied with Robert Willoughby, Stephen Preston, Sandra Miller,
James Pappoutsakis, and David Hart and performed in the master classes
of Karl-Heinz Zöller, Walfrid Kujala, Frans Brüggen, Bartold
Kuyjken, Robert Stallman, Betty Bang Mather, Wilbert Hazelzet, and
