MARY JANE RUPERT, acclaimed as a concert pianist and harpist, has performed throughout the world from Carnegie Recital Hall to the Beijing Concert Hall. She has appeared with symphony orchestras and chamber music groups across the U.S., including performances with the Boston Philharmonic, Louisville (Kentucky) Symphony, Mannheim Steamroller, The New Philharmonia, and others. She records for North Star and Harmony Hill. Dr. Rupert serves on the music faculties of Tufts University, Wellesley College, Boston College and MIT and has taught at Oberlin College, Indiana University, Western Michigan University, and elsewhere. (top) PERFORMANCES ~ PIANO: Mary Jane Rupert has given solo piano recitals at Carnegie Recital Hall, Beijing Concert Hall, Longy School of Music, Missouri Western College, Western Michigan University, Regis College, Tufts University, and other venues. She has appeared as piano soloist with the Suncoast Symphony (Venice, FL) and the St. Joseph Symphony Orchestra in Missouri, and has given chamber music concerts at Boston Conservatory, University of Maine, St. Gaudens Memorial, and elsewhere. In combined piano-harp recitals, she has performed at Syracuse University, Boston College, Beauport Museum (Gloucester, MA), and Fitchburg State College. (top) PERFORMANCES ~ HARP: As harpist, Dr. Rupert's performances include orchestral appearances with Boston Philharmonic, Louisville (KY) Symphony Orchestra, Evansville (IN) Symphony, Boston Classical Orchestra, Bangor Symphony, Monadnock Orchestra, Worcester Symphony, New Bedford Symphony, Springfield (MA) Symphony, and New England Philharmonic, and chamber music concerts with Scarborough Chamber Players, Lyricum Woodwind Quintet, Griffin Ensemble, Nuclassix, and Underground Composers. She performed as soloist at the American Harp Society's National Convention in Boston. (top) RECORDINGS: Mary Jane Rupert appears as harpist on two critically acclaimed North Star CDs with flutist Peter H. Bloom: The Distant Hills (classical music of Ireland) and Noel, Sounds of the Season (classical, traditional and international carols). On the Harmony Hill label, she has recorded two CDs (At Fox Meadow and Dawn), featuring solo piano works and chamber music of American composers Arthur Farwell, Arthur Whiting and F.S. Converse. (top) TEACHINGS AND PUBLICATIONS: Dr. Rupert serves on the faculties of Tufts University, Wellesley College, Boston College and MIT. Previously, she taught at Oberlin College, Indiana University, Western Michigan University, Missouri Western College, and Harvard University (independent study). She taught summer session for high school students at Vermont University, performed "mini" harp recitals at multiple Massachusetts schools, taught Kids Can Compose as a member of Copley Chamber Players in Rhode Island schools, and regularly conducts a kids' harp ensemble. Dr. Rupert's publications include her own flute and harp arrangement of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker (New Boston Editions, 1988) and Music for Flute and Harp, Vol II, (with Cynthia Price-Glynn, Boston Editions 1987). Dr.
Rupert holds a BM in Piano from Oberlin College. At Indiana University,
she earned an MM in Piano, MM in Harp and DM in Piano Performance and
Music Literature. Her piano teachers included Louis Kentner, Gyorgy Sebok,
Lily Dumont, William Harms, Arthur Dann, and others. She studied harp
with Marcel Grandjany and Peter Eagle. Dr. Rupert performed in master
classes of Nadia Boulanger, Robert Casadessus, and Leon Fleischer and
participated in chamber music coaching with Janos Starker and Josef Gingold.
